SYNOPSIS

Working day jobs while dreaming of success, three aspiring young rockers get the jump start they need when local legend Fauna, joins them as lead singer. Fauna recognizes the Dolls usefulness with which to launch her umpteenth campaign for stardom. The girls are quickly spotted by a major label, but girls will be girls and soon Fauna and Guitarist Kali are fighting over local hot singer, Levi (Coyote Shivers), and over the direction of the band. A frustrated Bassist Lavender fears she ruined her relationship with long time boyfriend Clark to fully commit to the band, and Drummer Reggie has a looming problem of her own as her proclivity for casually seducing and then discarding female fans has seriously angered one of her conquests, Heather. It all comes to a head during a two-day party at the girl’s crash pad – the Doll House. The party, intended as the band’s glorious coming-out, degenerates into a debauched Melee. The next morning, a body is found…someone is dead…and the Dolls’ world is forever changed. Welcome to the Dollhouse!

Nominated Best Feature — OUTFEST
Official Selection — Karlovy Film Festival
Official Selection — Melbourne Film Festival

Unaffectedly hip and affably manic, “Down & Out with the Dolls” picks up where Singles left off. Peppered with real-life rockers, the tech credits are fine, with fluid lensing and a muscular sound mix.
Variety

Kurt Voss’s new punk adventure flick proves girls just want to have fun. This film head-slammed me awake, sat me up and turned out to be assuredly made, unexpectedly poignant and hilariously feel good flick. With the goofy campiness of John Waters and the heartfeldness of Cameron Crowe.
L.A. Alternative Press

This raunchy Almost Famous for the riot grrrl set offers unusually strong female characters, tender lesbian sex scenes, vapid rock guys and viciously funny dialogue. The whole film rings true from Sundance darling, Kurt Voss.
Diane Anderson-Minshall, Curve Magazine

Dark comedy about the rise and fall of a fictitious all-girl punk band, this isn’t a glam rock, eye candy film, but realistic and passionate.
Independent Film & Video

Likeable with a pleasing freshness and authenticity.
